Dear Schoenstatt family of San Antonio!
The month of May is known as “the month of flowers”, the fields and forests are blomming. It is the month consecrated to the Mother of God, on May 31st we celebrate the Visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth.
For the Schoenstatt family, it has special relevance since on May 31st, 1949, Father Kentenich, founder of Schoenstatt, delivered a letter to the Church explaining the meaning and mission of Schoenstatt.
It is still Easter time… fifty days from the Resurrection of the Lord to Pentecost. This year Pentecost is celebrated on Sunday, May 28th. Ten days before, on Thursday May 18th, we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus to heaven, for pastoral reasons we celebrate this feast the Sunday before Pentecost allowing more people to participate.
Jesus remains with us during this time, strengthening our faith and the bond of charity that must exist among Christians. On Sundays we listen to passages that speak to us of his presence and company, preparing the hearts of the apostles for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Jesus reiterates over and over again two great desires: that we remain united to Him, like the branch to the vine, being faithful to his word. His other desire is the bond of charity that must exist between the disciples. That bond of love will be the best testimony and proof of the living presence of Christ in our midst. Jesus tells us "do not be afraid", he will not abandon us. He promises us the Holy Spirit, by which we will understand his coming to earth.
It would be good to ask ourselves: am I a sign and ferment of unity and charity in my community, parish, or group? Can others see the presence of Christ in my life? Am I a sign of Easter joy and hope? Questions that can accompany us in this time to share with others.
The Schoenstatt family of San Antonio will be crowning the Mother of God May 7th, as a sign of our love to her and our readiness to help in her mission from the Shrine.
Sunday, July 16th, we will celebrate the 50 Year Anniversary of the first time the picture of Blessed Mother was crowned in San Antonio, at Petaluma. The picture of the crown pilgrimage to several homes of our Schoenstatt family and will continue to do so until the day of the celebration.
Please try to take part in the renewal of the Covenant of Love every month on the 18th.
This month, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, I invite you to get closer to the Shrine and visit Blessed Mother more often.
Let us especially thank the volunteers who help as guardians to welcome pilgrims and visitors to the Shrine. God bless each one of them!
I use this opportunity to say goodbye as Moderator, my community has asked me to take other responsibilities in the Movement. Many blessings!
United in the Covenant of Love and in the Shrine, blesses you,
Father Hugo Tagle , Isch.

Schoenstatt is a Roman Catholic International Movement that strives to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the example and guidance of Blessed Mother Mary. She is at the heart of the movement and is very active in the Schoenstatt shrine, a place, of grace and source of life for our spirituality and work. Schoenstatt is deeply Marian and has repeatedly experienced how this spiritual love opens new avenues to a vibrant relationship with Christ, to the Holy Spirit, to God the Father and to a renewal of love of neighbor and self.
Schoenstatt, a German word for “beautiful place,” is a movement that involves lay people, priests, and religious, with special branches for boys’ and girls’ youth and for the sick. The Schoenstatt Movement offers formation and spirituality in the Catholic faith including monthly group meetings and days of reflection for women, couples and youth serving the Archdiocese of San Antonio and the surrounding areas including Brownsville, Laredo, Del Rio, Victoria, Amarillo and northern Mexico. Schoenstatt serves thousands of visitors to the Cor Unum in Patre shrine, Mount Schoenstatt center and Hope Religious store, located in Helotes, Texas, yearly. In nearby San Antonio, a city Wayside shrine is located on Ave Maria Street. All are open daily through the generous commitment of dozens of volunteers.
Our charism as a community might be summed up with these words: love of Mary, love of the Church, love of the mission of Christ for the world and society.
